My Story

Can you believe that right now in Australia, a country with so much opportunity, there are more than 12,000 young people with high care needs living in places like aged care and hospital rooms? It is shocking to think that these young people aren't given the same choice and freedom as you and I. Youngcare is working hard to change that, building age-appropriate housing and providing grants so that more young people with disability can live the young lives that they deserve.

As one of the Youngcare team, I have been lucky enough to meet some incredible people who face tremendous hardship every single day.

Through my work I get to tell their stories. They are stories of heartbreak and hope, stories from young people with high care needs living their lives with a lack of choice and freedom. Stories from mothers, fathers, siblings and friends doing all they can to care for their loved ones and give them back the young lives that they deserve.

As a young person myself, these stories really hit home. I can’t imagine living a life of isolation in a nursing home or hospital room, having no choice over when I eat or sleep or have my friends over. So I decided to take on the crazy challenge of trekking the Simpson Desert. It will be a personal journey, one that will be tough on my body and my mind! But it will only be nine days of isolation and adversity…not a lifetime like the brave young people Youngcare help every day.

Please support my journey and give generously to young Australians with high care needs because, like us, they deserve the freedom and choice to live a young life. THANK YOU for your generosity.

Thank You
