I am doing the Simpson Desert Trek in May 2019! For those of you who don't know it is 250km over 9 days through the Simpson Desert. Climbing more than 100 sand dunes with temperatures ranging between 0 and 40 degrees!
This is opportunity for me to give back to an organisation that is close to my heart. I originally became involved in Youngcare when a very close family friend had an accident that left him with an Acquired Brain Injury (ABI). With no housing options for young people, he was forced into Aged Care and for a 26 year old, that was not an ideal scenario. From that point, my family engaged with Youngcare. We have never looked back. Youngcare are an astounding organisation with not only their housing opportuniteis but with their at Home Grants which enable young people to continue to live their best life in the comfort of their own home.
My sister Abby and I are in our 6th year of organising the Long Lunch for Youngcare where we have raised over $100,000 for young people with high care needs. It is a fantastic opportunity for 200 people to get in a room and have a conversation about young people with high care needs and how we can all help.
But what does it mean for you? A small donation of $40 gives an hour of respite for a carer, $50 - a new bathroom railing, $250 - wheelchair access to a wash bath.
I am excited to be involved in the Trek and the challenges that come with it. Please help me reach my goal and create change for young people with high care needs.
