For a number of years now, I have been inspired by the unique and powerful work Youngcare does to spearhead powerful and positive change to help more young people with high care needs, live the lives we all deserve. There are simply too many young people in Australia being left behind, living in inappropriate and unacceptable housing. It is an issue that spans the corners of the country, yet it’s so close to home. With limited resources Youngcare provide everything, from high care housing, equipment and home modification grants, to information and support lines. I’ve heard many positive, and at times, overwhelmingly life changing stories from the young people and families whose lives have been touched by Youngcare. As a consequence, I am jumping on board and trekking 250km through the Simpson Desert - doing what I can to raise awareness and funds to support the outstanding work that Youngcare does. I know that whatever I do to support the team at Youngcare, whether small or large, it will mean a positive outcome, a smile or a laugh or just a sigh of relief…. And that’s making a real difference in someone’s life.
I am very lucky and extremely excited to be able to join the Simpson Desert Challenge this year. Over a 9 day period in June I will trek 250km into the Simpson Desert where I will cross over 1000 sand dunes carrying a 10kg pack. Yes, it’s a challenge for 9 days that will also require a significant commitment over the coming months and cause pain throughout the walk, however it is a drop in the ocean compared to what these young Australians are feeling on a daily basis.
Please come for the journey and help me help them by donating or sponsoring me on the Challenge. I’m aiming to raise a minimum of $35,000 that will contribute to housing, equipment, support lines and cutting edge research. The more people that know about Youngcare, the greater their impact, so please also spread the word by sharing my page with your friends and family. Thank you again for your support, it is very much appreciated.
